Foretelling

I have only the shortest bit of poetry for you all this week: one haiku about a very small creature.

The past week has seen me trying to get my horses settled in here at their new home and, more recently, trying to get treatment for a small, sick, but much-loved parakeet belonging to my sister. With all this and a few other things, I haven’t managed to write much, and I’ve been dissatisfied with most of the little I have written.

However, Sunday morning’s glimpse as I walked beside the house brought forth this haiku.

First cricket hops up
through last season’s dry grass. See?
Winter doesn’t last.

Oh I do hope that parakeet is doing well, now. And it's great that you get to spend time with your horses. The haiku made me laugh. Because it's funny and it made me feel good about the spring coming. Thank you!
