Glimpses

The weather is dry again now. Sunsets are golden against the west faces of the mountains. There are still stands of wildflowers left from the rain.

Sunset’s bright glow gilds
strong mountain faces; echoes
in gold wildflowers

Very unexpectedly after the concerns I wrote about in my last post, it appears that everything is resolving with the sale of our house. I’m still not entirely certain how it’s happened but am so very grateful.

I am one of those people who continue to react after the worst is over. This haiku reflects my feelings driving back from town yesterday evening.

I seldom depart from the more traditional, nature-oriented content in my haiku but decided to make an exception this time!

Hands and knees shaking
as I drive the grades because
things will be all right

This last small fragment comes from last night also. The evening was beautiful as I tried to persuade my body to calm down. I had just purchased my first rose bush for the new garden, so it crept into my poem.

Fragment of Evening

Aphrodite glows
Through the last of the blue
As the young night drew
Down to kiss the rose,
Where the day-dove flew
As the night-breeze blows.
