Moon-Glow & Sun-Glow
Here are a few glimpses from moon and sun this past week.
Moon-Glow
How full the moon is shining through the night;
I see it through the kitchen window here.
Its broad and yellow disc is glowing bright
Against autumnal black, and as I peer
Still through the sober glass’s evening blear,
I see the darkness of the sky is lit
With just enough of moon-gold that the near
Black silhouettes of trees are somehow knit
Into the silent vision. And a spit
Of dark electric pole is pointing up
To moon herself, where she, alone, may sit
In majesty and gaze into the cup
Of night-filled Earth. What does she see, the Queen?
Who treads October nights on trails unseen.
Five guttural notes,
Owl’s soliloquy mutters
Under cloud-washed moon.
Early sun through leaves’
new green, half-transparent, brushed
by air’s fingertips
