As Christmas approaches, here is a wonderful poem from my sister, Semy Marin!
SAINT NICHOLAS IN THE NIGHT
Have you seen Saint Nicholas
By the light of the moon, by the light of the snow?
With his beard just as white as the frost on the glass,
Or bright as a silvery waterfall's flow?
Have you heard the bells chime,
Nine thousand and nine, all on rein and on trace,
When the deer leap and bound as they run, time to time,
And the gentler music that rings as they race?
The great ice-clouds blow low,
And they bend as a bridge, and they bend as a bow;
And over the deer and Saint Nicholas go,
And he bears gifts and peace for the children below -
If only, if only;
He bears gifts and peace in his sleigh, on his back -
A twinkling, glittering, huge velvet sack,
Embroidered in gold and in white and in black;
Have you seen the deer's hoof-prints on clouds in their track?
Have you heard the bells chime, clear as silver and glass?
Have you seen the deer dash, with their hides white as snow?
If only, if only;
They leave starry hoof-prints in clouds as they pass,
And he leaves gifts and peace for the children below.
A very elegant pace with just a dash of dashing. Lovely
Beautiful. Let’s pray for peace in this harsh world.
