The Snow Geese
While driving out a couple of days ago, I saw a flock of snow geese flying in a magnificent arc against the clouds.
Snow geese are much less common here than the ubiquitous Canada goose—we live far, far south of this beautiful white goose’s breeding grounds and at the very northern tip of their winter range. They are seen more readily in more severe weather, and I suspect this flock was moving in response to the winter storm that has since blown into this area.
It was a dramatic sight: all those flashing white wings tipped black against a dark, heavy bank of clouds. I wrote this haiku in my mind as I drove, altering it slightly when I eventually typed it out.

beating against snow-black cloud ~
wonder of winter
The poem is amazing. "beating against the snow-black cloud". Brilliantly found words. As well the beating as the "snow-black".
