As spring has just arrived, one can feel the earth so much active and buoyant day by day. It's not only the chattering of birds all around, but also the rapid flow of the little stream that springs up during the seasonal rains. It's the loves and the young lives of the many little creatures around. And even the sun feels nearer now--as indeed it is nearer on this day of spring solstice in the northern hemisphere. Happy spring!

Together

Lightfoot upon the earth, beneath the sky,
I touch them with my fingertips and I
Can feel them breathe together, day and night,
Breathe vast across the splendor. Let it lie
On green and gold, where blue melts into white,
And pulse beats soft between the dark and light,
The slumber and the waking of the day
As new blooms open heaven. Wind takes flight,
Its whispers moist across my mouth with gray
Of springtime kisses; I embrace them, lay
My hand upon its unseen hand to greet,
So each to each we touch the other, say
A silent blessing as our fingers meet;
And then the breeze lifts swiftly, and as fleet
Darts elsewhere, through the trees and down the hill.
I watch its passing, luminous and sweet;
I feel its presence and its absence thrill
Across my eyelids and subside; and still
Its kisses fly among the grass and trees.
I feel the smiling of the soil; I will
Forever feel them: heartbeat of the breeze
And breath of sunlight’s come and go with bees
On wild blooms. I live in them and they
In me: alone together, I and these.
