Tumbleweed & Sparrows

I doubt that many people give much thought to the fact that that iconic western interloper, the tumbleweed, has flowers (and of course, seed, hence its unfortunate capacity to spread all sorts of places). One reason for this is that its blooms aren’t very noticeable or even easy to see.

Here is a photo of it in full bloom.

It’s certainly not very showy, but those small, thin-petaled flowers may still attract the interest of pollinators, as I found while watching the other day. Hence this haiku.

Slender butterfly
settling among tumbleweed's
transparent flowers.

The morning sunlight was so bright that it cast vivid black shadows against our fence panel, temporarily fooling my eyes till I spotted the real sparrows in a nearby bush. Then I watched a shadow theater play out on the panel.

Nice! Love it. I had a very short fencing workshop a few days back. The second poem reminded me of that.
