Some types certainly do. Our most common lizards are the whiptails, and I don't think I've ever seen them doing push-ups. But there is a chunkier type (not sure the name) that likes to do them.
I like that "chunkier" description and that's the type we have in Colorado. A few years ago, while working under the house in the summer, I watched my little chunky gecko sprint up a board and snag a moth, all within three feet of me. Fearless little guys really and they love moths, as do all the critters there. BTW, Laurie and I are in Córdoba, Spain right now. The pre Easter religious parades are mind blowing. 50 men carry different types of floats that weighs over 2,000 pounds, all with a Jesus figure on top being crucified or taken down or carrying a cross. And the bands have 150 members and they are LOUD and powerful with drums that thunder in the narrow streets. You can feel the percussion in your chest. This coming Sunday is going to be bonkers.
It must be fabulous to be in Spain right now. Love your descriptions; I can almost feel--yet only just imagine--all the sound and color!
And reading about your lizards reminds me how differently the various species respond. The whiptails are much more flighty than others. I'm always surprised when the larger types watch instead of whiskng off at high speed. ;-)
Nice pair of poems about lizards!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed them!
Lizards dancing to the silent music of the sun ... !
Everything feels so alive here, even--or perhaps especially--the silences... :)
Do your lizards do "push ups" when it gets really hot? Very enjoyable, thanks Amy

Wonderful. You have the gift of making the reader feel right in the poem, basking on those hot surfaces! Not freezing in the soggy UK!!
Sending you a bit of sunshine, warmth, and... lizards! There is plenty of all three here at the moment. Hope you are well!
