Love that vibrating spring garden. I think that sonnet is about as good a sonnet as ever was written. That is how to load a largeness into 14 lines. I wonder if the pain to pain is birth and death. Can you tell me what you would see as "the prize"? thanks

Wow, thanks so much, Wes! I would say the prize is simply all the things we cherish, care deeply about, all the things that are easily allowed to slip into the background in the struggle to just live life, to get on with it, while dealing with the hardships that occur... Does that make sense? I hope so!

Pain to pain is left vague because it will be different for different readers. In my case it can be literally one bout of pain to another, but birth to death is also a very good reading.

I wanted to leave things open (both the "pain" and the "prize") so various readers could read in their own experience.
