Thanks for those beautiful, well wrought things.

I have had that bereft feeling too when some beautiful, magical piece of nature leaves. Once, when canoeing the James River in Virginia I paused on a tiny island to fish and a flight of butterflies passed by all around. A dozen paused for a few minutes to sit in my hands and roll out their tongues. After they left I thought I would never get over that feeling of being bereft and I never really did.

Officially they are called a kaleidoscope of butterflies - just learned that!

How fantastic! It's beautiful how those experiences remain with a person. Years ago, my sister and I happened to be outdoors when an enormous kaleidoscope ;-) (I didn't know that name!) of monarch butterflies came through. It must have been their migration; there were so many of them... we counted in the hundreds as I recall. They only flew through, but I've never lost the magic of that afternoon.

Yeah, and we never forget those moments. I felt so honored to be trusted by them to sit in my hands. I still raise my hands every time I am near butterflies and hope they might come and sit again.

Another lovely set! The "haze of summer" haiku is really good - love it. And love the use of rhyme in A Sunny Morning as well - has a really natural cadence. Wonderful work.

"The haze of summer

divides me from the mountains–

how distant they seem!"

Superb.
